Named one of the top train journeys by @natgeotravel and @lonelyplanet, the scenic train from Flam to Myrdal is one of the most famous things to do in Norway's Sognefjord.

I couldn't turn down a ride on a vintage train from 1940!

Over the course of an hour, you'll ascend nearly 3,000 feet through the Flam Valley along the sparkling blue river. You will pass through several tunnels with views of pastoral farms, gorgeous waterfalls, and craggy rock cliffs all along the way.

The train takes a five-minute photo stop at the Kjosfossen waterfall where you can disembark and go out onto the platform. Get close enough to feel the glacier mist on your face 💦

It is a true bucket list experience when visiting Norway!

Feeling like Thor & Freya for the day ⚔️🇳🇴⚒️

In Gudvangen, a tiny town in the Sognefjord, there is a reconstructed Viking village (@vikingvalley.no) modeled off of traditional ones from the turn of the millennia.

The Vikings likely had a settlement around this area in the 10th & 11th, thanks to rich natural resources and a strategic location on a protected channel of the fjord.

You can learn about the traditions of the Vikings, watch demonstrations on various crafts & metalsmithing, and even try out a few sports of your own. I'm basically a natural at axe usage 😉
